The Holy Cow! F.C. has committed to donating a percentage of its profits to serious causes, with financial support for the poorest people in the world with basic needs including food, shelter, water and education.
This year the Holy Cow! Food Company is supporting Oxfam GB to work with farmers in the African country of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s increasingly low and unpredictable rainfall, together with political instability and hyper-inflation, have severely affected community gardeners in the Gutu district of Masvingo Province to grow vegetables, essential for ensuring food security for them and their families.
Oxfam’s project is developing an irrigation system spanning more than 2 million square feet of cultivable land – drawing water sustainably from a nearby dam.
By building an irrigation scheme to supply water all year round and by providing training in agricultural techniques and business skills, the food security of 25,000 people in Gutu will be improved and their dependence on food aid reduced. The project enables the community to adapt to climate change by reducing their dependence on rain-fed agriculture. |
